In the summer of 2015, a fatal encounter unfolded in Twin Falls, Idaho, resulting in the death of 53-year-old Kent Storrer, a White male. The incident, which occurred on July 25, 2015, stemmed from a Craigslist advertisement for a 1991 Mitsubishi. Storrer's son-in-law, Jasper Qualls, had listed the vehicle for sale, drawing the attention of two young men with sinister intentions.
The two men, later identified as 20-year-old Jacob Marshall and 22-year-old Jerry Kimball, arranged to see
the car. They arrived at Storrer's home, and after a test drive, the situation turned violent. Authorities reported that Marshall fired an assault weapon, fatally wounding Storrer and injuring Qualls. The indictment against the pair described Marshall as being "thirsty to kill" and Kimball as a willing participant in a plan to murder and rob people who were advertising cars for sale. After the shooting, Marshall and Kimball fled the scene in the stolen Mitsubishi.
The investigation moved swiftly, leading to the apprehension of both suspects. Marshall was arrested just hours after the shooting following a police chase that ended with him ramming a police car. Kimball's arrest came the following day when he went to the police station, ostensibly to provide information about the shooting. During his interview, he admitted to knowing that Marshall had planned to steal the vehicle and possibly kill someone. Both men were subsequently indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder. In June 2016, Jacob Marshall pleaded guilty to the murder of Kent Storrer, and as part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.
