In the late afternoon of August 2, 2019, a tragic event unfolded at a home on the Boise Bench. A shooting at a residence on North Fry Street resulted in the death of 45-year-old Antoine Jones, a male resident of Boise, Idaho. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but Jones was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. A second individual, a woman, was also injured in the incident but was treated at a local hospital and subsequently released.
The ensuing investigation
quickly led police to a suspect, 24-year-old Carlos Alonzo Sandoval. After the shooting, Sandoval fled the scene and took refuge in a nearby house, prompting a significant police response that included over 20 officers and the use of drones to aid in the search. Residents in the area were advised to remain indoors as law enforcement secured the perimeter. Several hours later, at approximately 8 p.m., Sandoval surrendered to the authorities after contacting them by phone and following their instructions for a peaceful exit from the house where he was hiding.
Subsequent legal proceedings revealed the relationship between the victim and the suspect. Antoine Jones had been in a relationship with Sandoval's mother, and Sandoval's sister identified Jones as their stepfather. Prosecutors stated that Sandoval had admitted to planning the attack on his stepfather and expressed no remorse. He was charged with first-degree murder, felony aggravated battery, and felony use of a deadly weapon. A judge ordered him to be held without bond and granted a no-contact order for the surviving victim. The motive for the shooting was reported to be rooted in anger Sandoval held towards Jones, possibly related to his mother who had passed away about a year and a half prior to the incident.
