On December 30, 2020, a 20-year-old Hispanic male named Davis Mosqueda was tragically killed in Boise, Idaho. A Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, Mosqueda was home on leave for the holidays, a trip he had started on December 23rd to spend time with his family. The young Marine, who had a passion for the outdoors, history, and muscle cars, was known for his loyalty and protective nature towards his loved ones.
In the early morning hours of December 30th, at approximately 1 a.m.,
Mosqueda was at an apartment complex near Fairview Avenue and Cloverdale Road with friends. He went outside to check on a friend who was in the parking lot. It was there that he encountered Devon Arnold. Arnold shot the unarmed Mosqueda multiple times in the parking lot. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room from multiple gunshot wounds.
Devon Arnold, 21 at the time of the incident, remained at the scene and was arrested by the Boise Police Department. He was subsequently charged with felony murder. In April 2022, Arnold pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. During his sentencing, Arnold expressed remorse for his actions, stating, "There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret my actions." Mosqueda's parents described the killing as "senseless and ridiculous." In July 2022, a judge sentenced Devon Arnold to up to 40 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving 15 years.
