On a seemingly ordinary evening in Hilliard, Ohio, seventeen-year-old Adam Benjamin Lake vanished, leaving behind a life and a family that continue to seek answers. On March 24, 2001, after having dinner, Adam went to a party with a friend. He has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, he was carrying a backpack and a cell phone. Adam was a student who had recently been expelled for a minor infraction at school but had plans to get his GED and attend Ohio State in the fall. He was a young man with a future ahead of him, making his sudden disappearance all the more baffling to those who knew him. Adam is described as a Caucasian male with blond hair and green eyes. Standing at approximately 6'0" and weighing around 165 pounds, he had several distinguishing features. These include a scar on his right hand, a faint scar on his right cheek from a dog bite, and crooked teeth. He had also previously broken his right arm twice. On the night he went missing, Adam was wearing a t-shirt, khaki pants, and a long, black leather trench coat. Notably, Adam is fluent in Spanish, which has led to speculation that he may have traveled out of state. He also has a serious medical condition, Crohn's Disease, which can be fatal without proper treatment, adding a layer of urgency to the search. The circumstances surrounding Adam's disappearance are fraught with conflicting theories. Initially, law enforcement believed that he may have left of his own accord. However, his mother has expressed that she does not believe he would have willingly cut off contact for such an extended period, leading her to fear that he met with foul play. His sister has also publicly stated that she does not believe he left on his own, pointing out that he was last seen at a party just two blocks from their mother's home and had no money with him. The case remains unsolved, a painful and enduring mystery for his loved ones. The Columbus Division of Police continues to investigate, and anyone with information is urged to come forward. The enduring question of what happened to Adam Lake continues to cast a shadow over his family and the community that hopes for his safe return.
