In the quiet, rural community of Garden Valley, Idaho, a domestic dispute shattered the peace of a home on January 21, 2020, leading to the death of Helen Beckwith, a Caucasian female. The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of the morning, just after midnight, stemming from a conflict between Helen and her son, Joshua Beckwith.
Law enforcement, including Idaho State Police and Boise County Sheriff's deputies, were dispatched to their residence following a report of a disturbance
and shots being fired. The situation had escalated from a domestic argument to a fatal encounter. Inside the home, investigators believe Joshua Beckwith shot his mother before taking his own life in what was determined to be a murder-suicide. Two other adults and a juvenile were also in the home at the time but managed to get out safely.
Upon entering the residence, authorities found both Helen and Joshua Beckwith deceased in an upstairs room. The investigation that followed focused on the events that led up to the tragic outcome. Evidence found at the scene supported the conclusion that Joshua Beckwith was the sole person responsible for his mother's death. No other suspects were implicated, and no arrests were made as the perpetrator was also deceased.
