In the quiet mountain town of Victor, Idaho, the life of 38-year-old Kali Jean Randall, a White/Caucasian female, came to a tragic end on the night of November 30, 2023. A talented silversmith and photographer, she was known for her adventurous spirit and deep love for the rugged Idaho wilderness. She was approximately 28 weeks pregnant with her second child and was a loving mother to her 10-month-old son, Zeke.
The events leading to her death began to unfold earlier that day when her
husband, Jeremy Albert Best, was found walking naked through the Swan Valley General Store. Deputies from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office responded and he was taken by ambulance for a medical and mental health evaluation, but was subsequently released. Later that night, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Teton County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from the family's residence. A disturbance could be heard on the open line, with Kali's voice screaming "Jeremy, no!" before the call ended. When deputies arrived at the home, they found Kali Jean Randall deceased from gunshot wounds.
Following the discovery of his wife's body, Jeremy Best became the primary suspect. He had fled the scene with their infant son, Zeke, prompting an Amber Alert to be issued for the child. The search for Jeremy and Zeke concluded two days later, on the morning of December 2, when a group of hunters discovered Jeremy Best on the side of a road east of Idaho Falls. He was naked and inside a sleeping bag. His SUV was found nearby in an embankment, and inside, authorities discovered the body of 10-month-old Zeke Best.
Jeremy Albert Best was taken into custody and subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his wife, Kali, and their unborn child. He was not immediately charged in the death of his son, Zeke, pending an autopsy. In February 2025, as part of a plea agreement to avoid the death penalty, Jeremy Best, then 50, pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his son, Zeke, and second-degree murder in the deaths of Kali and their unborn daughter, who the family had named Freya.
