On November 20, 2021, Brooke Lynn Goodrich, a 25-year-old White/Caucasian female, was found deceased in her Orford, New Hampshire, residence. An autopsy would later confirm she died from a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Brooke had recently moved back to Orford to be closer to her brothers. She was working as a finisher at Pompanoosuc Mills at the time of her death.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her cousin, 35-year-old Lance Goodrich
of Lyme, New Hampshire. Following the discovery of Brooke's body, Lance Goodrich was located at a residence in Newport, New Hampshire. A four-hour standoff with police ensued, which concluded with his apprehension. During the standoff, while on the phone with his wife, he reportedly stated that he had shot Brooke because she was "running her mouth". Court documents later suggested that Lance Goodrich was despondent over marital problems at the time of the incident.
Lance Goodrich was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with his cousin's death. On August 19, 2022, a Grafton County grand jury indicted him on one count of first-degree murder, for intentionally causing Brooke's death by shooting her, and an alternative count of second-degree murder for recklessly causing her death under circumstances showing an extreme indifference to human life. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and has been held without bail pending legal proceedings.
