On the evening of Friday, September 15, 2023, in Waltham, Vermont, a dispute between neighbors culminated in the tragic death of 48-year-old Michelle Kilbreth, a White female. The events unfolded on McKnight Lane shortly before 7 p.m., when police received calls about a physical altercation that was immediately followed by a shooting. When troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered Kilbreth deceased.
According to the investigation by the Vermont State Police, Kilbreth had been
involved in a physical fight with another woman from the neighborhood. Kilbreth was in possession of a handgun during the altercation. At some point during the struggle, she lost control of the weapon. A juvenile who was present at the scene then picked up the firearm and shot Kilbreth multiple times. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the torso, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Due to the suspect's age, authorities have not released their name. The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing, with the Vermont State Police working in conjunction with the Addison County State's Attorney's Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
