On a crisp autumn afternoon, the community of Castleton, Vermont, was irrevocably shaken by the death of Honoree Fleming, a 77-year-old White female. On October 5, 2023, the retired university dean was taking a walk on the familiar Delaware and Hudson Rail Trail, a path she frequented near the Vermont State University campus.
