Bryan Andrew Hayes, age 13, went missing on February 10, 2005, from Jacksonville, Florida, along with his friend Mark Degner. Both boys, who were students at Paxon Middle School, left the school premises after an argument with a teacher around 1:15 p.m. and were never seen again. Bryan had a developmental delay, with the emotional maturity of a much younger child, and suffered from bipolar disorder, requiring daily medication that he did not have with him when he disappeared.
Initially, authorities considered the boys as runaways since they had talked about leaving and had previously been caught trying to sneak away. However, neither took any belongings, including clothes or Bryan's medication, raising concerns about their well-being. Over time, and with no signs of the boys, investigators began to consider that foul play might be involved, especially given their medical needs.
Despite multiple searches and appeals to the public, no definitive leads have emerged. The boys' case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to classify it as endangered.
