On December 5, 2016, in Newbury, Vermont, 76-year-old Barbara Welch was found deceased in her home alongside her husband, 80-year-old Kenneth Welch. The Vermont State Police responded to a welfare check after receiving a call from a relative who reported that Kenneth had admitted to shooting his wife. Upon arrival, officers discovered both individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigations indicated that Barbara's death was a homicide, while Kenneth's was ruled a suicide.
