In the city of Providence, Rhode Island, a 27-year-old Black / African American male named Dante L. Mann was fatally shot on the night of October 22, 2020. An aspiring rapper known by the name SOS DMann, he was in the process of filming a music video on Gallup Street in the Lower South Providence neighborhood when the tragic event unfolded. The music video was intended as a tribute to his cousin, who had been killed on the same street two years prior.
Around 11:30 p.m., a vehicle
approached the group gathered for the video shoot. An individual reportedly exited the car and opened fire on the crowd. During the ensuing chaos, Mann was struck by a bullet. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Authorities indicated there was an exchange of gunfire, making it unclear if Mann was the intended target.
Dante was a father of four children. In the years following his death, his family has continued to seek justice. Despite their ongoing pleas for information and an anonymous donor offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction, no arrests have been made in the case. The investigation into the death of Dante Mann remains open as his family and friends continue to mourn their loss and hope for a breakthrough that will bring his killer or killers to justice.
