On August 28, 2017, 17-year-old Riley Stonehouse of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was fatally shot during an attempted drug robbery at Bakker Park. The incident occurred when 18-year-old Dylan Holler, along with 16-year-old Jaden Carmel, attempted to rob another teenager of marijuana. During the confrontation, Holler struck the intended robbery victim with a stolen firearm, causing it to discharge and fatally wound Stonehouse.
