On November 12, 2023, 30-year-old Dylan Evans of Piedmont, South Dakota, was fatally shot during a hunting trip near Red Owl, in Meade County. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. while Evans was walking through a field with several companions, including juveniles. He sustained a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
