On October 31, 1903, Deputy Sheriff Louis Falkenburg, a male law enforcement officer serving in Weston County, Wyoming, was fatally shot in the line of duty. He had joined a posse led by Sheriff William “Billy” Miller in response to reports that members of an Oglala Sioux group were illegally hunting antelope and killing livestock in southern Weston and northern Converse counties.
