On May 29, 1908, Sheriff Alfred Henry Bath of Albany County, Wyoming, was fatally shot near Woods Landing. The assailant, identified as George H. Sommers, was a fugitive from Colorado. Despite efforts to apprehend him, Sommers evaded capture, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
