In the spring of 1995, a routine transport ended in a tragic loss for the community of Fremont County, Wyoming. On April 30th of that year, Steve Crerar, a 62-year-old Caucasian male and a Lieutenant with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, was tasked with transporting a 17-year-old prisoner. The young man, John Michael Sides Jr., was being taken to the Wyoming Boys' School in Worland. The journey, however, took a fatal turn, marking a dark day for law enforcement in the state.
