In the early morning hours of September 23, 2022, a violent encounter at a Motel 6 in Bismarck, North Dakota, tragically ended the life of 28-year-old Maurice Thunder Shield of McLaughlin, South Dakota. Authorities were dispatched to the motel around 12:40 a.m. following a report of a man shot in the chest.
