Danielle Taty'ana Maile Samson-Cabral, an 18-year-old resident of Puna, Hawaii, passed away on September 24, 2018, at The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. Born on June 20, 2000, in Hilo, she was a former student of Hilo High School and a member of New Hope - Hilo.
The incident leading to her death occurred within a home on Weston Way in Puna's Ainaloa subdivision.
According to police reports, someone inside the house called authorities to report that Danielle had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. She was subsequently medevaced to Oahu, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after 11 p.m. Preliminary indications suggested that the shooting may have been accidental.
An autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death; however, the preliminary findings were not immediately released. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Danielle's death, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation concluded with the determination that the shooting was accidental, and no charges were filed.
Danielle was remembered by friends and family as smart, strong-minded, and beautiful, with a deep and strong mind and soul. A celebration of her life was held on December 15, 2018, at New Hope - Hilo, followed by the scattering of her ashes at Four-Miles Beach Park.
