Malia Kahalewai, a 24-year-old resident of Kawela, Hawaii, tragically lost her life on March 20, 2013. Her boyfriend, Marlin Lavoie, fatally shot her with a high-powered rifle. The incident occurred at a friend's house in the Kawela Barns complex where Malia was staying. Lavoie had tried to persuade her to return to his residence, but she refused.
