On a late Sunday evening in Warrior, Alabama, the community was shattered by the sudden and violent death of its respected Chief of Police, Jesse Franklin Rickels. On July 27, 1941, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the 48-year-old male lawman was on duty when he encountered a man at a service station.
