In the afternoon hours of June 15, 1943, Mobile Police Department Officer Ollie Mason, a 49-year-old male, was killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call on South Hamilton Street. The call concerned a 54-year-old man who had beaten his wife and three of his children and had then barricaded himself inside his garage.
