In the heat of a July afternoon in Birmingham, Alabama, on the 13th of the month in 1969, a 26-year-old male police officer named Kenneth Lee Spencer, Jr. found his life cut tragically short. He had been a dedicated officer for a year, serving his community with a commitment that would ultimately cost him everything.
The day took a fatal turn when Officer Spencer responded to a call at a public swimming pool.
He was attempting to remove a man from the premises when the situation escalated with sudden and shocking violence.
