On November 16, 1974, Patrolman Otis Lee "Sonny" Robison, aged 22, and Patrolman Allen Lee "Butch" Harmon, aged 27, were tragically killed in the line of duty. The incident occurred after the officers made a traffic stop on I-20, arresting a man suspected of drunk driving. Unbeknownst to the officers, the suspect was driving a stolen car and had escaped from the Calhoun County Jail on January 26, 1974, while awaiting an appeal of a four-year sentence for burglary.
