On November 17, 1975, Deputy Sheriff David Eugene Beck, Sr., of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office in Alabama, was fatally shot while performing his duties. Deputy Beck, along with Deputy Sheriff Robert Stolz, was searching a wooded area near the Mississippi state line for two individuals who had earlier fired a shotgun at another deputy during a pursuit.
