In the summer of 1982, a violent incident shattered the quiet of Winston County, Alabama, leading to the death of a dedicated law enforcement officer. Deputy Sheriff James W. Taylor, a 50-year-old male who had served with the Winston County Sheriff's Office for six years, was killed in an ambush on Wednesday, July 7, 1982. The attack occurred while he was in his patrol car next to the county jail in Double Springs.
