On August 26, 2002, in Luverne, Alabama, 19-year-old Jerry C. Ball was tragically killed in a mass shooting that claimed the lives of six family members. The victims included Jerry's grandmother, Mila Ruth Ball, 65; his mother, Joanne Ball, 35; his brothers, Tony Lamar Ball, 17, and John Lewis Ball, 14; and his stepfather, Willie Edward Haslip, 40.
