On August 26, 2002, in Luverne, Alabama, 14-year-old John Lewis Ball was tragically killed in a shooting incident that claimed multiple lives. The victims included John's brothers, Jerry C. Ball, 19, and Tony Lamar Ball, 17; his mother, Joanne Ball, 35; his grandmother, Mila Ruth Ball, 65; and Willie Edward Haslip, 40. The family was interred at Little Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Rutledge, Alabama.
