In the late hours of November 4, 2010, a tragedy unfolded at a Domino's Pizza on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama, that would cut short the life of a young man. Russell Lee Allen, a 21-year-old male, was working at the establishment when a robbery took a violent turn. During the commission of the crime, Allen was shot, sustaining critical injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and he was quickly transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Russell Lee Allen succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The Mobile Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting. For nearly two weeks, detectives worked the case, seeking leads and information from the public that could help them identify the person responsible for Allen's death. The breakthrough they were looking for came on the morning of November 15, 2010. Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, investigators were led to the 900 block of West Tangle Wood Drive in Mobile.
There, at approximately 9:30 a.m., they located and apprehended 18-year-old John Earl Dortch. Following their investigation, detectives determined that Dortch was the individual responsible for the death of Russell Lee Allen. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with Capital Murder in connection with the fatal robbery and shooting. The Mobile Police Department continued to encourage anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward as the investigation progressed.
