On January 4, 2014, 26-year-old Hunter Collier from Birmingham, Alabama, was involved in a fatal incident during a hunting trip in Sumter County. While in a hunting blind, Collier was struck by a stray bullet in the left hip, which severed a major artery. This injury led to a heart attack, and despite being transported to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.
