In the quiet town of Ozark, Alabama, the life of a Caucasian male teenager, 17-year-old Christian Markoff, was tragically cut short on the night of Sunday, February 2, 2014. The events that led to his untimely death reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a small sum of money and counterfeit drugs. Markoff had allegedly been sold fake marijuana and was shot after he objected to the fraudulent transaction involving a mere $10 debt.
His death sent ripples of shock and grief through the community, prompting friends and family to gather for a candlelight vigil in his memory.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Ozark police to two teenage suspects. One of the individuals charged in connection with Markoff's murder was Quashawn Marquise Knight. The second suspect was Joseph Martinez Rodgers, who was only 15 years old at the time of the fatal shooting. Despite his young age, the gravity of the crime led to the decision that Rodgers would be tried as an adult in the eyes of the law.
