Tiffani Dominique Cossey, a 23-year-old woman from Linden, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on December 28, 2024, in a fatal shooting incident involving her mother, 45-year-old Victoria Crosby. The altercation occurred at Crosby’s residence on Rainmaker Street in Linden, stemming from a dispute over money for a cell phone. Authorities responded to a distress call reporting a domestic dispute between the mother and daughter.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Tiffani Cossey deceased inside a vehicle parked in the driveway.
According to reports, the confrontation escalated when Tiffani Cossey and her boyfriend arrived at her mother’s home to collect money. When Crosby refused, the argument intensified, leading Tiffani to retrieve a car jack from her vehicle and threaten to damage property. Witnesses reported hearing a frantic plea over a 911 call, with someone shouting, “Get the gun out of my face.” Shortly after, another call was placed by Tiffani’s sister, Ozara Shaw, who informed dispatchers that her mother and sister were engaged in a heated dispute, and that Tiffani had allegedly assaulted their mother.
During the altercation, Crosby reportedly retrieved a firearm and began striking her daughter through the passenger-side window of the vehicle. As Tiffani attempted to open the car door, her mother allegedly fired a shot, striking her in the chest and causing fatal injuries. Authorities arrested Crosby hours later and charged her with murder. She was initially held without bond at the Harnett County Detention Center but later appeared in court on December 30, 2024, where Judge Joy Jones set her bond at $1 million. Additionally, the court ordered Crosby to avoid contact with Tiffani’s boyfriend.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. Family and friends planned a balloon release at Westover Park in Fayetteville to honor Tiffani Cossey’s memory.
