In the late summer of 2014, the community of Aliceville, Alabama, was struck by a sudden and tragic event that ended the life of Heather Renee Garner-Brandon. A 29-year-old woman, she was a wife and a mother to two young sons. On a Saturday, what began as a dove hunting trip with her husband, Johnny Brandon III, south of Aliceville, took a devastating turn. During the hunting excursion, a gun accidentally discharged, inflicting a fatal wound upon Heather.
