In the winter of 2015, the community of Prichard, Alabama, was shaken by the discovery of two individuals who had lost their lives to gun violence. Roderick Reed, a 33-year-old male, was found deceased alongside 22-year-old Charnesha Jaquail Penn on January 15, 2015. Their bodies were located inside a car that had come to rest in a ditch on Warren Street in the Whistler area.
Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to a suspect from out of state. Kiyonta Malique Moffett, then 29 years old and a resident of Buffalo, New York, was identified as the individual allegedly responsible for the deaths of Reed and Penn. In a collaborative effort involving the Prichard Police Department, U.S. Marshals, and the Mobile District Attorney’s Office, Moffett was apprehended in the Birdsville Community of Mobile.
Following his arrest, Kiyonta Malique Moffett was charged in the shooting deaths of both Roderick Reed and Charnesha Penn. The arrest brought a measure of relief to the families of the victims and the local community, as an individual believed to be connected to the violent act was taken into custody. The case then moved into the judicial system for prosecution.
