On February 21, 2015, 29-year-old Chavis Shikei Sanders from Prichard, Alabama, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at the Woodlands Apartments around 8 p.m. According to police reports, Sanders arrived at the apartment of a female acquaintance who refused him entry. He allegedly forced his way inside by kicking down the door, leading to a confrontation with another male present in the apartment.
