In the early hours of April 14, 2015, a sense of unease settled over the 2000 block of Eagle Drive in Mobile, Alabama. It was here that Marlo Demetrius Derks, a 38-year-old man, found his life hanging by a thread after being shot in the leg. First responders rushed to the scene at approximately 2:20 a.m., finding Derks wounded. He was quickly transported to Springhill Medical Center by Mobile Fire Rescue, but despite their efforts, the injury proved to be fatal, and he died at the hospital.
