In the late afternoon of May 10, 2022, a dispute on South Leeds Avenue in Prichard, Alabama, escalated into a fatal exchange of gunfire, leaving two men dead. The deceased were identified as 26-year-old Joseph Lewis Jones III and 29-year-old Reshaun Demar Cunningham.
According to investigators in Prichard, an argument broke out between Jones and Cunningham. The verbal altercation quickly turned violent, with both men brandishing firearms.
In the ensuing shootout, both Jones and Cunningham sustained fatal injuries.
Prichard authorities reported that the two men shot and killed each other during the confrontation. The incident was contained to the two individuals, and no other injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.
Joseph Lewis Jones III was a resident of Mobile and had attended Leflore High School. He was a father to two children. Following the incident, law enforcement officials did not name any outstanding suspects, concluding that the two men were the sole participants in the deadly encounter.
