On May 4, 2015, 24-year-old Johnny Kordara Griffin was found shot to death inside a house in Birmingham, Alabama. This incident was part of a tragic event where two other individuals were also killed in the same location.

In response to this triple homicide, a candlelight vigil was held at the intersection of 3rd Street and 4th Terrace North in the Smithfield community to honor the victims.
