In the early evening of June 3, 2015, the life of Dr. Luke Nelson Taylor III, a 44-year-old African American male, was tragically cut short in Montgomery, Alabama. Officers and emergency personnel responded to a call around 9:25 p.m. and discovered Dr. Taylor lying in the roadway on Ivy Lane, near Southern Boulevard. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations into the incident suggested that the shooting had been preceded by an
argument. For nearly three months, the case remained under investigation, leaving the community and Dr. Taylor's loved ones awaiting answers. He was remembered as a respected member of the Montgomery community, and his sudden death was a significant loss for all who knew him.
A breakthrough in the case came on August 27, 2015, when Montgomery police arrested 24-year-old Marquis Martin in connection with Dr. Taylor's death. Martin, a resident of Montgomery, was subsequently charged with one count of murder. Following his arrest, he was held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $75,000 bond.
