Kameron Pettiway was a 15-year-old from Montgomery, Alabama, remembered by those who knew him as funny, caring, and uplifting. A student at Lee High School, the Black male was also a basketball player. Friends and family shared memories of his energetic and playful personality after his death.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 29, 2022, Kameron’s life was cut short. Around 1 a.m., he was fatally shot in the area of Highland Avenue and Summitt Street in Montgomery.
Authorities did not release further details about the circumstances of the shooting.
The Montgomery Police Department began an investigation that quickly led to an arrest. On Tuesday, May 31, 2022, police took another Montgomery youth into custody in connection with Kameron’s death. Because the suspect was a minor, his name and specific age were not publicly released.
The juvenile suspect was charged with reckless murder and transported to the Montgomery County Youth Facility. At the time of the arrest, police had not shared information about a possible motive. As of the last update in May 2022, the case was proceeding through the juvenile justice system.
