In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday night in January 2016, a White male named Barry White, 45, from Walker County, Georgia, was killed in Higdon, Alabama. The incident, which unfolded on January 23, 2016, stemmed from a domestic dispute.
The conflict began when a woman and Cody Lee Wade, 40, of Higdon, were involved in a domestic argument. The woman called Barry White and another man, William Gilreath, for a ride to leave the residence.
When White and Gilreath arrived, Wade attempted to get into their vehicle. As White drove away, Wade opened fire on the vehicle, striking both occupants. The vehicle then ran into a ditch near the Shiloh Community Church on County Road 155.
When law enforcement from DeKalb and Jackson Counties, as well as the Ider and Fort Payne Police Departments, arrived at the scene around 11 p.m., they found Wade in possession of a gun. Barry White was pronounced dead at the scene. William Gilreath, from Jackson County, was also shot and injured.
Cody Lee Wade was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center, where he was charged with murder.
