On August 13, 2016, 24-year-old African American male Joshua Aaron Jamal Lewis was fatally shot in his apartment located in the 7700 block of 4th Avenue South in the South East Lake neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred during a confrontation involving his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, identified as 24-year-old Quindarius Reed.
