On a March day in 2018, the quiet waterfront of Orange Beach, Alabama, was disturbed by a grim discovery. The body of 53-year-old Raymond Curtis Dudley, a white male, was found near a canoe launch on Wolf Bay. An investigation by the Orange Beach Police Department soon revealed that Dudley, who was homeless and originally from Massachusetts, had been the victim of a homicide, having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
The investigation into Dudley's death quickly focused on an
acquaintance and coworker, Michael Burns, who was 48 years old at the time. Evidence and witness statements suggested that an argument between the two men had escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.
