On December 1, 2018, 54-year-old Geraldine Talley and 29-year-old Stephen Hamby, both experiencing homelessness, were shot multiple times in a wooded area near the Salvation Army on Maxwell Boulevard in Montgomery, Alabama. Hamby sustained several gunshot wounds to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene. Talley was shot in the face and transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries; she survived the shooting but later died of natural causes.
