On March 12, 2019, Mobile Police responded to a residence in the 5000 block of Karlan Drive, where they discovered the bodies of 85-year-old Helen Raymond Middleton, her husband Donald Middleton, also 85, and their 60-year-old son, Daniel Middleton. Authorities determined that Daniel Middleton fatally shot his parents before taking his own life, classifying the incident as a murder-suicide.
