On August 25, 2019, in Athens, Alabama, a domestic dispute between 70-year-old James Alfred Adams and his 45-year-old son, Alfred Dewayne "DW" Adams, culminated in a fatal shooting. According to law enforcement reports, the altercation escalated when James informed Alfred that he was going to bed. Alfred then entered the bedroom, where James shot him in the chest, resulting in Alfred's death at the scene.
