In the early morning hours of January 26, 2020, the life of 28-year-old Brandon Christopher Henry, a Black male from Eufaula, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Responding to calls of shots fired on Central Avenue, Eufaula police discovered Henry lying in a yard, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Henry's death moved swiftly, and just five days later, on January 31, 2020,
the Eufaula Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect. Cordarius Jamal Turner, then 24 years old, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Brandon Henry. The arrest brought a sense of cautious relief to a community shaken by the violent loss.
Following his arrest, the legal process began to unfold for Cordarius Jamal Turner in Barbour County. His case, registered under the number CC-21-135 in the Barbour County Circuit Court, moved through the judicial system, leading to a trial where the evidence surrounding Henry’s death was presented. The trial concluded with a guilty verdict, holding Turner responsible for the death of Brandon Christopher Henry.
After his conviction, Turner sought to have the decision overturned and filed an appeal with the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals under the case number CR-2023-0873. The appellate court reviewed the proceedings from the lower court. On August 9, 2024, the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the original conviction, upholding the decision of the Barbour County Circuit Court. This decision solidified the legal conclusion that Cordarius Jamal Turner was responsible for the shooting death of Brandon Henry, bringing a measure of finality to the nearly five-year-long legal battle.
