In the spring of 2022, the life of 22-year-old Devonte Barnett, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Eufaula, Alabama. On the afternoon of Saturday, April 23, multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the vicinity of South Randolph Avenue. When Eufaula Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 3:28 p.m., they discovered Barnett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Emergency services transported Barnett to Medical Center Barbour, but his injuries proved
fatal, and he was pronounced dead. In the midst of the chaos, a second individual, also wounded in the shooting, was taken to the same hospital by a private vehicle. This person was stabilized and later airlifted to another facility for more advanced medical treatment.
The Eufaula Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division immediately launched a thorough investigation into the shooting. They processed multiple crime scenes to gather evidence and understand the circumstances that led to the violent encounter that claimed a young life and left another person seriously injured.
Devonte Barnett, known to his loved ones as 'Vonte,' was remembered as a loving son, brother, and father. His family and friends recalled his kind and generous soul and his memorable, beautiful smile. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing closure to his family. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the death of Devonte Barnett.
