On March 14, 2020, at approximately 2:03 AM, Bay Minette Police responded to reports of gunfire at the Circle K gas station on US Highway 31 South. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Larry Darnell Smith Jr. deceased from a gunshot wound. His sister, Sharrikka Shawnta Smith, was also present, suffering from a stab wound to the back. She was transported to USA Medical Center in Mobile for treatment.
