In the late hours of a spring Sunday in Bessemer, Alabama, the life of Torie Demarcus Bouyer, a 41-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short. On May 3, 2020, Bouyer was found shot in the 800 block of 16th Street North. The Bessemer Police Department responded to a call of a person down and discovered Bouyer inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported Bouyer to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the early hours of the following morning. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of death.
